For consoles, it is a standalone game that is bundled with previously released DLC 'Elite Soldier Pack' which led you customize the color and armor style of your soldiers and 'Slingshot', a set of three unique Council Missions that featured a special soldier.Įnemy Within includes 'Operation Progeny', a content pack similar to the Slingshot DLC, originally planned to release for Enemy Unknown separately, but withheld due to Slingshot's poor fan reception. The game is an expansion pack on PC, meaning the player needs Enemy Unknown in addition to Enemy Within to play. In an interview, Garth Deangelis, producer on Enemy Within, said that Enemy Within could be seen as a 'Director's Cut' to Enemy Unknown. The concept is that Enemy Within will feature the same story progress of the same invasion of Enemy Unknown, but it will add more feautures, units, abilities, resources, maps and so forth. It is a expansion pack to XCOM Enemy Unknown, which released at the end of 2012. On August 21st 2013, XCOM Enemy Within was announced, releasing November 12th.
